Giving with joy and willingness is highly valued by God. The Bible teaches that God appreciates cheerful giving, rather than giving out of obligation. Although tithing is not commanded in the New Testament as it was in the Old Testament, it is a timeless practice that predates the Mosaic Covenant, as seen in the examples of Abraham and Jacob. Tithing allows people to establish consistent giving, yet the New Testament emphasizes giving with joy, going beyond mere obligation. This kind of giving requires a change of heart. In this passage, Paul urges the Corinthians to recognize the opportunity to support the Believers in Jerusalem. Jesus said in Matthew 10:8, "Freely you have received, freely give." The word "cheerful" in 2 Corinthians 9:7 means "hilarious." What more could you give to God and His work that you aren't currently giving? Remember, God delights in those who give with joy. When you give freely, you will experience the richness of knowing God.
